Set: 126407

The Way It Was. Swindon Inter-City 126 407 has unloaded passengers at Glasgow Central High Level Platform 11. It is starting to fill up again before the tail lamp has been repositioned. DMBSL Sc51037 will lead on what will probably be another working down to the Ayrshire coast. Probably circa 1980. alicia hartman.

Set: 126407

The Way It Was. Swindon Inter-City 126 407 arriving at Platform 11, Glasgow Central High Level on a murky afternoon. Passengers are opening doors for a quick exit on the final vacuum application. The markings and OHLE flashes on the nose of the DMSL suggest this is Sc51015 (see images on Railcar). The short stay car park to the right is gone and has been replaced by Platforms 12 and 13. Trains from these 'new' Platforms now leave via the archway. Undated negative but probably circa 1980. alicia hartman.

 DMU

9th May 1981

Class 107 DMU departs Glasgow Central High Level on the 14:50 to Edinburgh Waverley via Shotts. Platforms 1 and 2 are immediately behind the DMU. If you wanted to get to Edinburgh in a hurry this wasn’t the way to go with about 13 intermediate stops over the 46 miles to Edinburgh! Saturday 09 May 1981. alicia hartman.

 DMU

9th May 1981

Set: 166

Derby Suburban Class 116 threads its way through the complex trackwork on the approach to Glasgow Central High Level with the 14:12 (SO) from East Kilbride. The DMBS of Set 166 is all blue but the trailer is in blue / grey. The Class 314 EMU in the background would have been a rare visitor to the High Level at that time. Saturday 09 May 1981. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126413

End of Days. Swindon Inter-City 126 413 departing Glasgow Central High Level and what was Platform 12. Intermediate Sc51026 is leading on what is likely a departure for Ayr. The short platfrom road on the right was Platfrom 11a, which saw very little passenger use other than in times of disruption. Probably Summer 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126413

End of Days. Swindon DMSL Sc51026 leads 126 413 at Glasgow Central High Level. The Set is waiting at Platform 12 (now 14) on a departure for Ayr. Notice the Greater Glasgow PTE Trans-Clyde logo below the saloon windows. Probably Summer 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126413

End of Days. The two remaining Swindon Inter-City Sets (126 406 and 413) have arrived at Glasgow Central with a Sunday working from Stranraer Harbour. Judging by the luggage this service had made a connection with the Sealink ferry from Larne. Sc51026 (126 413) is now standing at the head of Platform 9, ready to run out ECS once the passenger work is complete and tail lamp is removed. Probably Autumn 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126412

End of Days. Swindon Inter-City 126 412 (probably Sc51042) bringing up the rear of a six car set departing Platform 13 at Glasgow Central for the Ayrshire coast. Swindon 126 413 is leading and the resultant haze of exhaust fumes is drifting towards the camera. Probably Spring 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126413

End of Days. Platform 13 and a six car Swindon Inter-City awaits departure from Glasgow Central. If the station clock is correct, this could be a late running 13:35 hrs to Ayr and Girvan. The slightly cross-eyed domino dots and dirt stains on the DMSL suggests this is Sc51026, probably making it Set 126 413. The rear Set is 126 412. Probably Spring 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

1982

Set: 126413

End of Days. Swindon DMBSL Sc51043 at the stops at Glasgow Central. Awaiting departure from what used to be Platform 12 on a working to Ayr. Probably May 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

November 1982

Set: 116391

Fitter Time. Glasgow Central High Level and some winter sun catches 116 391 departing Platform 8 for East Kilbride. Station fitters are attending errant Cravens DTSL E56464 at the head of a three car lash up on adjacent Platform 9. Probably December 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

7th January 1983

Set: 105376

Last Days. Cravens E51493 at Glasgow Central having arrived as part of a late afternoon working from Kilmacolm along with its Derby partners. An old notebook suggests this is probably Cravens DMBS E51493 + Derby TSL Sc59790 + Derby DMBS Sc52004 which was used on Kilmacolm services on 04 January. Homeward bound commuters seem to be drifting along the then Platform 13 for another service, past the 'Front Train Beyond This Point' board in the distance. This would now be Platform 15 at Central. Probably Friday 07 January 1983. alicia hartman.

 DMU

January 1984

Set: 104450

Ayr Variety. BRCW Class 104 triple at Glasgow Central High Level Platfrom 11, having arrived on a working from Ayr. This is probably DMBS M53452 (104 450) + TBS E59225 + DMBS M53461 (104 452) seen previously at Ayr Kyle Street. Most of the vehicles drafted in after the Ayr Depot fire had seen better days elsewhere. The station roof needs some attention. The good old days!? Tuesday 24 January 1984. alicia hartman.

 DMU

January 1984

Ayr Variety. BRCW Class 104 triple at Glasgow Central High Level Platfrom 11, having arrived on a working from Ayr. This is probably DMBS M53452 (104 450) + TBS E59225 + DMBS M53461 (104 452) seen previously at Ayr Kyle Street. Two Class 86 Electric Locomotives are stabled at the stops in the adjacent Platform 10 - not an unusual occurrence in this part of the station at that time. Tuesday 24 January 1984. alicia hartman.

 DMU

January 1984

Ayr Variety. Glasgow Central High Level with motley DMU formation departing for the Ayrshire coast in lingering snow and slush. The leading triple includes two ex Blackpool white stripe Class 104 Driving Cars sandwiching a Class 107 Trailer. Rear triple is probably MC DMB E53207 + BRCW DMC M53510 + MC DMS E54088. If anything, it shows the versatility of the Blue Square coupling code. Friday 27 January 1984. alicia hartman.
